End Tables For The Doll House

Here are the newest creation I made for the doll house. Some little end tables. I made 5 of them, but I need one in my Room box, so there are only 4 left. I will sell them for $3.50 each.

Also, I put some little pumpkins on them for display. I don't know how much I will sell the pumpkins for yet. Perhaps when I make several of them, I will either sell them in groups or add the pumpkins to other items and sell them together.

Stained Glass Window

I finally made a stained glass window for one of the windows. Well, actually the window is in the making but I have made the stained glass design for it. There are a lot of copyright laws in effect when it comes to making stain glass windows. You really have to make your own design in order to be safe legally.

The fun part will be printing it out. I have to make sure the settings are all correct and I don't end up with a microscopic window!

I studied different ideas on how to draw a dove. So, I made a dove and it looks like a dove. Well actually, I think it looks like a hummingbird, but at least it looks like a bird.

I am not an artist, but I would like to have some skills when it comes to drawing and designing. So, here is my little piece of art work.

Now for all the fun stuff!

Progress On Dollhouse Room Box

Here is a pic I took tonight of my room box in the making.  There are still a lot of details to finish.

I would have liked to have made the floor a little lighter in color. I think it is too dark. Next time, I won't put so many coats of paint on it! Next, working on the windows and after that, making the ceiling. I want to put some glitter in the paint on the ceiling, when I get to that point. What would really be neat is to put a workable ceiling fan on top with a light that really lights up! If I find info on this, I will post it and also try to make it work.

Lighted Dollhouse Lamp

I am excited about being about 2/3 of the way finished with one of my dollhouse room boxes. I decided it would be like a family room or living room. I want to make a ceiling fan with a light that lights up to go into the ceiling. For now, I am working on the windows, and making a stained glass window for one of the side windows.

I finished a couple of lamps and am very pleased with them. Because they are the first ones I made, there are some flaws in them, but not very noticeable. They have space for a cord and light to go through them. I did try to take a picture with them lighted, but you can't really make out what they are in the picture, so I took a picture of one without the light on, so you can see what the lamp itself looks like.

I will make a couple more before I decide how much to sell them for. I found the directions for this lamp from Sue Heaser's book, 'Making Doll's House Miniatures with Polymer Clay.

To Scroll Or Not To Scroll? Jigsaw Or Scroll Saw?

I have my eye on a piece of equipment to use in making dollhouse furniture and items. Here is this beautiful scroll saw that I found on amazon.com

Here is a jigsaw that I also found on amazon.com, but it needs a transformer and foot pedal. It ends up costing more, so I have to ask, which one would I need and use more often?

The transformer costs almost as much as the saw does. I think I will go with the scroll saw for now.

I got some new ideas and inspiration for my dollhouse items. I love lamps and made a couple of lamps that will light up when a bulb is attached to the little plug unit. I will take pics of the lamps and also the new idea for lamps came from a memory I had of a picture we had in our house. We had a picture lamp. It was a rectangle shape and hung on the wall. It had a switch you could turn on and off, and the bulb hid behind the picture. It was a lighted picture and that is what I am in the process of making as well. I have some ideas for making more Tiffany style lamps too. When my lamp store is finished, I will make a room for it and will have all the different lamps displayed. Probably will need to get several little dollhouse sized plug in strips and bulbs with attached cords and plugs.

This has to be attached also to a transformer (what is it with dollhouse equipment and the need for transformers?). The transformer should be attached to a regular electrical strip because the fuse could blow if it is just plugged into the wall (I don't understand this, but I contacted the company and this is what they told me).

Here are some books on dollhouse lighting. I would also like to make ceiling fans and wonder if there are any directions for how to make those.

Maybe I should have just started with this!

New Floor In Progress As Well As Tiffany Lamp Shades

I finished my first floor and it turned out nice, but not very level. Here is a picture of the second floor I am making. If only I could find some more of those coffee stirrer sticks! They were there when I was just scanning the store, but now that I need some more, I can't remember where I found them in the first place!

I found the graph paper on the internet for free download. It helps keep the sticks in order.

Here are my Tiffany lamps before they went into the oven to bake. Reminds me of when I was a child playing with those little toy ovens. They really did bake, but, I would always get shocks from my little ovens and it took the fun out of baking. But at least I don't get shocks from this oven. It is much improved from what we had as kids!

Polymer Items Baking In The Oven

Here is my little clay baking oven. I formed some tiles out of clay as well as a lamp and a bottle of water. How long should I cook them for and at what temp? Time will tell if my guess is right!

My First Dollhouse Post And Why I Am Making Another Blog

For the past three months I have spent untold hours trying to find tutorials and information on how to build dollhouse items, and I have learn a lot, thanks to Pinterest. I am creating this blog page, partly out of frustration because of a couple of different reasons. I want to be part of a dollhouse forum where I can ask questions, but every time I try to join one, something goes wrong and I can't get in. I got into one a couple of weeks ago and asked a question, but the forum won't let me back in. I tried to join another forum, but there was no option to register, only to sign in. Bummer.

Another problem I see and have encountered a lot is that most of the professional dollhouse or miniature makers I see on the internet are not Americans. That shouldn't be a problem but I don't know how to read Japanese or Taiwanese, so, all I can do is look at their beautiful pictures and try to guess how to make the items. Also, English in the U.K. is different than English in the U.S. For example, people in Australia or in the U.K. will use something called 'Mat board'. What in the world is Mat board anyway? Where can I get it, or can I get it in the U.S.?

So, with that in mind, I will have this blog, not so I can show off how much I know about making doll house items, but to engage others who have the same interest and to dialogue about making items to fit into our dollhouses, or even how to make the dollhouses.

This floor is the first one I have ever
made. It is made from popsicle sticks
cut to fit with a saw (yes, I figured out
how to use a miter box and saw). It is
sanded and painted with stain and a
polyurethane finish.

Now I am working on the next floor, which also is made with wooden sticks, but they are narrower
and the ends don't have to be cut off because they are straight, not rounded. I want to paint them with a pine or birch colored stain.

What was cool about this floor was that instead of spending hours looking for directions on how to make a dollhouse floor, I took it upon myself to figure it out for myself, on how to make this from scratch. I did find directions when I was almost finished and to my amazement, they were very similar to what I was doing in putting this floor together. The floor does buckle up though, so I am keeping some heavy books on it with the hope that the floor will eventually stay straight on its own.

This is the little family I got off
amazon.com. I needed dollhouse
sized people to use to find the
correct scale or size to make the
items with.
